HTML 5 date/time input field UI on Desktop

I hope I’m not intruding in this process in any way, but I’m somewhat
familiar with the complexity of the calendar picker widget (orientation,
formatting and reckoning are three big subjects, but there are other ones,
too, like CSS styling of the widget: how much could websites style it, and
if so, then what parts can be styled?).
With authorisation from Madhava and Philipp – both of whom might already be
in the process of evaluating the bug, or might have other plans for it –
I’d like to offer my help.
